GANT MANOR 1933 - 1936 (approx)
Mary was born on 29th October 1921 in Snape, North Yorkshire into a large Methodist farming family and passed away peacefully in her sleep on 8th May 2015 aged 93.
Mary went to Hunmanby when she was twelve and loved it. Her cousins Gladys Pullan and Wynne Chapman were there with her. Music was Mary’s first love. She passed the piano theory exams to go to the Royal Academy but because of the war was unable to continue with her education as she was needed at home. Mary still had piano and violin lessons after leaving Hunmanby winning many prizes at the Harrogate Festival. She played the organ for services at her local Chapel from being 15 until failing health in her mid 80s prevented this.
Mary married Leonard Greensit in 1943 and they farmed at West Tanfield having three children, David, Rosemary and Rachel. David’s son now lives at the farm. Rosemary and Rachel both attended Hunmanby in the 1960s and are actively involved in the HHOGA both being on the Committee and North Yorkshire secretaries at some time. We had a lovely Thanksgiving Service for Mummy which was attended by some “HH Old Girls”
And tributes were paid to her many activities in the Chapel and village and affectionate remembrances shared with family and friends. She will be missed very much.
