Christine Ashton (née Wardell) pupil 1960-66
Christine Mary Ashton née Wardell ?/11/1948-1/10/20
Christine wrote the following information for a form reunion, probably in 2009 and her family have asked that we use this as her obituary.
"After leaving Hunmanby Hall and going to Yorkshire Ladies in Leeds. I then went into Agricultural accounting working with an agricultural advisor. After 5 years I then joined the family retail fashion business. It was through my time doing accounts that I met my first husband Terence Hammond, a turkey farmer from Northamptonshire – we had a son, Edwin.
After our marriage breakdown Edwin and I returned to Lincolnshire and I carried on working in the family shops. We settled in Caistor and Edwin attended a local school then went on to board at Ranby School, then Worksop College. It was there that I saw my present husband, Pip Ashton who had a son David at the school. I had known Pip for many years and he was at that time going through a divorce - we married August 4th 2000, the Queen Mothers 100th birthday.
In the same year my sisters (Sally and Vicki) and I decided to close the business; Sally continued in fashion retail on her own.
I joined a firm of Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents where Pip was a partner. I was with them for 8 years and then retired last year - how strange after being in employment since leaving college. This will only be temporary, as I have been kept busy on family matters.
I continue with my interests: gardening, golf, bridge, tennis etc but no more skiing at present - the ageing process!
HH reunions are always fun and we have a very active branch in North Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire."
